SEO Career is a summer internship and professional development program targeting talented Black, Hispanic, and Native American undergrads and pre-law school candidates. Participants receive free career prep resources, training, and coaching to land a summer internship and, ultimately, to secure a full-time job offer in business, technology, or law.
In 2015, 85% of our business and technology interns have received full-time offers from our partner organizations. Virtually 100% of our law partners secure full-time associate hires annually via SEO Career.
While all are welcome to apply, we target Black, Hispanic, and Native American candidates. All undergraduate candidates must be attending an accredited, four-year U.S. college or university. All graduates (for law only) must plan to attend law school in the U.S.
Freshmen may apply in their fall semester without a GPA. All other candidates must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA to be eligible for career prep or internships.
All majors are welcome. Relevant majors and/or coursework for specific roles are strongly encouraged. For example, finance, accounting, economics, STEM, and related business majors for business roles and computer science or electrical engineering for technology roles. All majors can be successful law candidates.
International students at U.S. institutions, who have F-1 visas and OPC or CPT work authorization, are eligible to apply for business and technology career prep and internship roles. International students are not eligible for law career prep or internship roles.
Competitive candidates exhibit:
- A drive to succeed as evidenced by academic achievement, professional experiences, and campus involvement
- A willingness to learn and take on new challenges
- A leadership orientation, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to thrive in team environments
- Professionalism, maturity, and strong communication skills
- Business acumen, attention to detail, and comfort with quantitative concepts (for business internships)
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities
Yes, SEO Career interns are paid a competitive weekly salary that approximates a pro-rated, first-year, full-time salary for the role. This means that you will be able to afford a lifestyle similar to that of an entry-level employee.
We provide interns with information about affordable temporary housing options in each internship location. Most interns will have at least one roommate for the summer. You will also budget for your own travel to and from internship locations, appropriate professional attire, meals, your daily commute, and socializing/exploring. Keep in mind that interns in suburban locations will need a driver’s license and a car.
SEO Career interns are responsible for their own housing and travel expenses. SEO Career will provide loans by request on a limited basis. Some partner companies do provide housing assistance in the form of subsidies, stipends, and/or reimbursements for all or part of an interns housing and/or travel-related expenses. Those accommodations can be discussed with our staff during the offer process.
SEO Career will position you to land the internship of your dreams and, ultimately, to secure a full-time job offer. We are focused on providing guidance to identify career targets, align academic/extracurricular/professional experiences, and hone professional skills. Participants receive access to world-class training resources to learn key skills desired by employers across a breadth of industries. Our career prep is largely virtual and will not conflict with academic or work responsibilities.
Prior to the start of summer internships, business and technology interns will attend our Institute in New York. The Institute lays the foundation necessary to hit the ground running and add value from day one of your internship. It also exposes SEO Career interns to the thought-leaders and themes relevant to their careers.
Law interns will attend an orientation before their internships and an Institute at the end of their summer. Orientation introduces law interns to the skills and concepts to which they will be exposed during their internships. The Institute, a one-week lecture series led by top corporate lawyers and distinguished law school professors, teaches pre-law interns the skills necessary to excel during the first year of law school.
Throughout the SEO Career experience, participants receive feedback and guidance from coaches and mentors to ensure they are able to perform at the highest level.
We work diligently to understand each participant’s career goals and to prepare them to meet the standards of highly-competitive industries. We also work with our partners to understand their ideal candidates and the environments in which they will thrive. SEO Career participants have access to partner internship opportunities. The selection process varies and will be explained as appropriate.
We review applications on an ongoing basis and candidates are selected to receive career prep resources, training, and coaching year-round.
We review candidates for summer internships with our partners on a monthly basis from October through April and make selections on a rolling basis. It’s best to apply as soon as possible. There are six rounds for internship consideration: October 1, November 1, December 1, January 1, February 1, and March 1.
Final deadlines vary by internship. Candidates who apply after the final deadline will be considered at our discretion:
- December 15: Consulting and Sales & Trading internships
- January 1: International students for Business and Technology internships
- March 25: Law internships
- April 1: All other Business and Technology internships
